Rapper G. Dep Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison For Murder

Rapper G. Dep was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a 1993 murder he allegedly committed.

According to reports, the former Bad Boy rapper, whose real name is Trevell Coleman, was sentence for the crime two years after he made the shocking confession.

“The circumstance of your being before the court now suggests to me a maturity and decency that wouldn’t have been evident at the time,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus said. “It was the right thing to do, even though it landed you in the position you find yourself in now.”

G. Dep walked into a Harlem precinct in 2010 and admitted to shooting a man that authorities later identified as John Henkel.

Dep’s lawyer, Anthony Ricco, says that his client admitted to the crime to clear his conscience.

“My hope is that Trevell never wavers from his decision,” Ricco said. “Fifteen years is a long time. Fifteen years in the penitentiary for putting yourself there is an even longer time.”
