R. Kelly Underwent Emergency Throat Surgery, Will Miss Reggae Sumfest

R&B crooner R. Kelly has confirmed reports claiming he underwent an emergency throat surgery this week.

As a result of the surgery, Kelly will be unable to perform for an indefinite amount of time. However he told fans on Twitter that he would return to music.

“I’d like to thank everybody for their love, concern and support. I WILL BE BACK!,” he tweeted July 20th. (R. Kelly’s Twitter)

R. Kelly publicist Allan Mayer said Wednesday that doctors drained an abcess on one of his tonsils on Tuesday and that the singer will be “laid up indefinitely” at Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Mayer says Kelly had been complaining of throat pain recently and was rushed to the hospital after a throat exam.

This will cause the Grammy-winning singer to miss his Reggae Sumfest debut in Jamaica this Friday.

Summerfest Productions is looking for a replacement to headline the show international night 1 on Friday July 22nd.
