Jury Resume Deliberation Today In Buju Banton Trial

Jury will resume their lengthy deliberation in the highly publicised Buju Banton trial in Tampa Florida today.

The jury which retire last week Friday to determine if the Grammy winning reggae star is guilty or not, may or may not come to a unanimous verdict today.

Reports suggest that the artist, whose real name is Mark Myrie, is relax but a little worried as would anyone be in his position. There is a tense mood from fans of the reggae star who are hoping the jury will return with a not guilty verdict.

Buju Banton previous trial ended last September in a mistrial, after jury in the case could not reach a unanimous verdict after three days of deliberation. His second trial began on Monday (February 14) in the Sam M Gibbons Federal court in Tampa, Florida.

Banton is being tried for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine; attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine; possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offence; and using the wires to facilitate a drug trafficking offence.

If convicted Banton faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment.
