Buju Banton To Spend Another Weekend Behind Bars Before Knowing His Faith

Embattled reggae artist Buju Banton will spend another weekend behind bars before hearing his faith in his highly publicised cocaine trial.

The 13 member jury panel spend part of yesterday and the entire day today deliberate the case against the reggae icon to determine if he committed a crime or not.

Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, has been in jail for nine months and 14 days after being hauled out of his Tamarac home in South Florida on December 10 last year. He along with two other co-defendants were slapped with cocaine trafficking charges.

Despite spending almost a year behind bars and could spend an additional 25 years, Buju has consistently maintained his innocence. He refused a plea bargain offered by the prosecution where he would only spend 2 years if pleaded guilty. His other 2 co-defendants accept plea deals from the prosecution and could see their sentences reduced at the judge’s discretion.
