Now for the first time Shabba Ranks is opening up about why he declined the performance.
Speaking with Winford Williams, Shabba says he declined because he wanted to perform alone.
“BET called me and say they wanted me to do a motion to be on there award show, but I had prior engagements,” Shabba Ranks said. “So I asked them what is the criteria for me to be there and they told me that me and five or four persons have to be on stage. So I said to myself Shabba Ranks who got two Grammy for dancehall music in America… It don’t take me and five other artists to present dancehall music in one format, when Mariah Carey get her own stage… I should get my own stage.”
Shabba Ranks also opened up about his beef with Ninjaman back in the 1990s and also performing with Capleton on Irie Jamboree in New York on Labor Day Weekend.
