Samantha J Ink Deal With Columbia Records

Is Samantha J the new Rihanna out of the Caribbean?

Samantha J is still reaping the success from her breakout single “Tight Skirt.”

The Jamaican songbird is now sign with Columbia Records and is working on her debut album.

The 17-year-old Ocho Rios singer says she is happy to be a part of the Columbia family.

“I cannot express how happy I am to be a part of the Columbia Records family. The label has a rich history of developing great artistes and music. As soon as I have my exams under my belt, I can’t wait to get back to producing music and most of all making Jamaica proud,” Samantha J said in a press release.

Columbia Records is not new to the reggae/dancehall genre. The label has worked with the likes of Mad Cobra, Super Cat, Ini Kamoze, and Peter Tosh.

Columbia distributed Tosh’s two landmark albums Equal Rights and Legalize It.

Columbia Records is a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment.

As part of the deal, Samantha J will collect an advance of anywhere between $325,000 to $700,000 for her first album. She stands to collect more if she sticks with Columbia all the way through to her 6th studio album.

  2. Great news for her but let’s see how much pressure they put on her to change and become more mainstream and less original. I hope she has good management support around her…wish her all the best.
