Kendrick Lamar Album ‘Untitled Unmastered’ Debut At No. 1 On Billboard

King Kendrick Lamar new album “Untitled Unmastered” debut at No. 1 on Billboard 200 album charts this week.

The unexpected project was released last week by TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith. The 8-track project sold 178,000 copies in the first week of release according to Nielsen Soundscan. Pure album sales consist of 142,000 copies.

The album “Untitled Unmastered” consists of mostly demos for his previous albums. The project marks Kendrick Lamar’s second No. 1 album, while his critically acclaimed “To Pimp A Butterfly” was his first No. 1 after selling 363,000 copies in the first week. That project also helped him earned five Grammy awards this year.

“Untitled Unmastered” was originally released as a digital album only but last week TDE announced that hard copies are now available including a vinyl version.

This is Kendrick Lamar’s second No. 1 album in less than a year making him only a handful of rappers to have multiple No. 1s over the last year. Drake and Future both has multiple chart topping albums including their joint project “What A Time To Be Alive.” Drake’s “If You’re Reading This Its Too Late” also debut at No. 1. Future has three No. 1 debuts including his DS2 and the recent album EVOL.

Adele’s latest album 25 slips to No. 2 with 61,000 copies sold in the last week, while Rihanna slipped to No. 3 with 58,000 copies of her ANTI album sold in the last week.

2 Chainz and Lil Wayne album ColleGrove and Justin Bieber’s Purpose rounded out the top five with 53,000 copies sold each. Bieber is now spending his 17th straight week in the top five on the 200 chart.
