Chokwe Lumumba, an attorney who represented Buju Banton in 2012, is dead.
Lumumba is a prominent lawyer and human rights activist who was elected mayor of Jackson, Mississippi last year.
According to reports, Chokwe Lumumba died on Tuesday at the St. Dominic Hospital. The cause of his death was not released.
Mr. Lumumba was sworn in as mayor in July of 2013 after vacating his position as Buju Banton lawyer.
He was instrumental in helping Buju Banton continue his fight for a new trial.
He was 66 at the time of his death.
