Roc Nation rapper J. Cole launched his new album Born Sinner yesterday.

The rap sensation hosted a listening session last night at the SVA theater in New York.

Speaking with Fuse, J. Cole offered up an explanation to one of the lead singles on the album titled “Let Nas Down.”

J. Cole says everything started when he released the single “Work Out” and got a surprised response from his fans and also from rap legend Nas.

This is what J. Cole said:

“It was the worst response I’ve ever gotten on any song I’ve ever put out,” J. Cole said. “It was a terrible response,” he said, adding, “When I made that song, it was a triumph.”

“I was in the studio with Nas and we was talking about you and he was like, ‘Yo, why did he do that? Why did he put out that song? Don’t he know he’s the one? He ain’t gotta do that.’”

“On the inside I was really hurt because I really idolized Nas.”
