According to reports, Andre Henry, 35, of Irvington, was shot and killed, while a security guard employed by the club was shot and injured. Mavado was not hurt in the incident.
Authorities believed that an altercation in the club lead to the shooting.
“It was mayhem,” Newark Police Detective Emanuel Miranda told reporters.
Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, was interviewed by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, however, he is not a suspect in the case.
