Guinness will be unveiling their list of 50 dancehall icons on Friday, June 22nd.

The list was compiled by a special panel comprising of educators and journalists including lecturer Dr Sonjah Stanley Niaah, producer Mikey Bennett, and producer Dr Dennis Howard.

The nominees includes popular dancehall entertainers including deejays, singjays, dancers, disc jockeys, bands and selectors. These includes popular names such as Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, the late Bogle, Lady Saw, Buju Banton, Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Sly And Robbie, Yellow Man and more.

Last month Guinness revealed that they will allow to vote on their favourite icon. Every week they will be revealing the fan favorite leading up to Jamaica 50th independence celebration.

“As Jamaica celebrates its 50th year of Independence, Guinness wanted to find an appropriate way to celebrate the year with its consumers,” said Guinness brand manager, Racquel Nevins in a statement. “Dancehall music is a shared passion between Guinness and our consumers and we believe this activity will create much excitement and debate, while allowing us to recognise some of the great contributors to dancehall culture.”

Guinness has long been a popular staple of dancehall culture. This is one of the brands way of giving back.
