New York rap icon Nas has broken his silence on the January kidnapping of a promoter in Angola.
According to reports, Patrick Allocco, a promoter from New Jersey, and his son were kidnapped by another promoter, Henrique “Riquhino” Miguel, believed to be involved in the event, after Nas did not show up for the gig.
Nas told Sway of MTV Rap Fix Live that there were a number of issues with the promoters leading up to the event.
“He wanted me to come to Africa for New Year’s. Which to me I thought would be the best way to spend New Year’s,” Nas said. “You booked the flight, but no return flight. I didn’t have a visa. You didn’t send money til after I was supposed to jump on the plane to another country.”
Nas said he felt thrown under the bus by the promoters, who behaved recklessly.
“He was in some crazy danger in Africa so he threw me under the bus.”
The promoter and his son were eventually released after the money, $300,000, was returned to the promoter.
